Wolfsberg Castle
Wolfberg’s landmark is the magnificent building of the Wolfsberg Castle built in the neo-Gothic Tudor style. The Wolfsberg Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1178. Over the centuries, the castle was repeatedly modified and expanded by the various lords and owners of the castle – among them Empress Maria Theresia.
The Henckel Counts gave the castle its present unique appearance. In 1846, extensive modification works began under Hugo I, turning the former defiant fortress into today’s Tudor-style castle.
Today the Wolfsberg Castle is in the possession of the Carinthian Montanindustry GmbH Company. After the completion of comprehensive renovation work, the castle’s state rooms have been opened to the public.
