Bruck an der Mur: One of Austria’s Oldest Towns
The historically important Styrian town beside the Mur and Mürz Rivers is surrounded by lush green mountains. The old town’s large burgher houses, many with beautiful inner courtyards and impressive arcades, bear witness to its former significance as an important trading centre. The “Kornmesserhaus” located in the Stadtplatz Square in the middle of town, owes its name to Pankraz Kornmess, one of the town’s wealthy businessmen of the time. It was constructed in 1495 in the Venetian style and it is one of Austria’s most important gothic secular buildings.
This Small Historic Town is a wonderful holiday destination and an ideal starting point for exciting excursions throughout Styria.
Excursion tip:
The breathtaking “Grüne See” Lake is only 25 km away from Bruck an der Mur. In 2014, the lake, fed by mountain meltwater, was elected as the most beautiful place in Austria.
